Tyler & Kennedy’s Intimate Moraine Lake Elopement

Moraine Lake is one of the most iconic locations in the Rockies! It almost doesn’t feel real with its deep blue water and mountain backdrop. Tyler and Kennedy kept things simple, shuttling up from their hotel in Banff for a quiet summer elopement surrounded by nature. It was the kind of day that felt calm, real, and perfectly suited to them.

Tyler and Kennedy eloped at Moraine Lake which is just 15 kilometers from Lake Louise in Banff National Park!

Hiking up Rockpile Trail

After arriving at Moraine Lake, we hiked up the short but steep Rockpile Trail with Tyler, Kennedy, and their officiant. The path winds through boulders and evergreens until you reach the famous overlook (the one that feels like stepping into a postcard) at the north end of the lake. The turquoise water stretched out below and the Valley of the Ten Peaks rose around us. The couple took their place at the edge and said their “I do’s” in one of the most breathtaking spots on earth.

Moraine Lake Elopement Q&A: What You Need to Know

Eloping at Moraine Lake is a dream, but there are a few practical things every couple should know before heading up the mountain. Here are some of the most common questions we get from couples planning their intimate ceremony at this iconic Alberta location:

  • No — personal vehicles aren’t allowed on the Moraine Lake Road. Couples need to book a shuttle, private tour, or guided transport from Banff or Lake Louise, whether through Parks Canada, the Moraine Lake Bus Company, or a private elopement shuttle.

  • The lake is typically accessible from late May to early October, depending on snow conditions. The summer months of July and August offer the most vibrant turquoise water, reliable weather, and long daylight hours.

  • We recommend dinnertime — by then, most of the daytime crowds have left, giving you a better chance at privacy and uninterrupted views. The evening light is still beautiful, creating calm, golden moments for your vows and photos.

  • Set aside at least 2–3 hours to hike the Rockpile Trail, capture photos, and enjoy your ceremony without feeling rushed. This also gives time to soak in the scenery and adapt if the weather or light changes.

  • Because the Rockpile and lake overlook are public spaces, small groups are best, usually under 10 people. Most couples keep it simple with just themselves, an officiant, and a photographer, which keeps the day intimate and stress-free.
